Experienced Registered Nurse OR Registered Practical Nurse-Physician Employed-Full Time in Lakefield

JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)

Dr. David Hurst – Morton Community Health Centre

Permanent Full Time, 4 to 5 days per week, 8:30am to 4:30 pm.

Dr. David Hurst is starting a new Family Practice, at the Morton Community Healthcare Centre in Lakefield. He is looking for a RN or RPN to join him in providing comprehensive and quality health care, as part of the Family Health Team model of patient care.

You will be part of the Chemong Family Health Organization and you will work in collaboration with Dr Hurst, who will be your employer. As part of the Chemong Family Health Organization you will have access to the Family Health Team resources, you will also work alongside a mental health clinician, a pharmacist and a registered dietitian to provide comprehensive primary care to the patients of this practice.

The RN or RPN will practice within his/her full scope of practice as outlined in the Standards of Practice by the College of Nurses of Ontario. This position will allow you to have your own schedule and your own fully equipped office to see patients.  Most patient visits will be independent, but some will be with the physician, such as on “diabetes days”.   Dr. Hurst will usually be available for all of your scheduled patient visits, and you will be working directly under his supervision.

You must hold a current certification of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RN or RPN and maintain membership in the RNAO. Further education and experience in well women care, well baby care and diabetic care (including the management of diabetics on insulin) would be an asset.

The position requires excellent health assessment/clinical skills and the ability to perform the full range of duties and responsibilities. Primary care experience is preferred. You are an independent and organized individual with strong oral/written communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and computer skills. Proficient use of Telus Health (PSS) electronic medical records is very important.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • conduct new patient first visits, entering patient history & data in the EMR
  • well women care (Pap, pelvic, and breast exam)
  • diabetes management, including regular “diabetes days” with the physician
  • well baby care (9 month to 5 year old visits and immunizations)
  • adult BP checks, immunizations, ear syringing, suture removals, dressings
  • point of care testing (urine, HCG, rapid strep)
  • telephone messages and responses to patients (regarding lab reports, X-ray reports, medication changes, specialist’s note follow-up, etc.)
  • conduct Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) screening for cognitive impairment
  • conduct patient education for smoking cessation, as well as chronic diseases
  • maintain accurate and concise EMR documentation of patient & encounter data
  • experience with Telus Health, Practice Solutions preferred, but other Electronic Medical Records experience an asset

Further training may be available in the areas of well women care and the care of diabetes, if needed.
