- Golf Classic Raises $43,500 for Local Vascular Program -
September 8, 2010 – The Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation held a press conference earlier today to announce the outstanding success of the recent Freedom 55 Financial ~ Peterborough Charity Golf Classic, which raised $43,500.00. The life changing funds raised from the tournament have been donated to the Comprehensive Vascular Disease Prevention and Management Initiative (CVDPMI), a local program created to find individuals at-risk of Canada’s number one cause of preventable death: vascular disease. A portion of funds raised have already been put into good use by the CVDPMI program in the creation of patient communications materials, which will help in creating greater accessibility and comprehension of the program.
”Our annual Peterborough Charity Golf Classic has always been well supported by the community and we are especially grateful to the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation in the role that they played in making it such a success this year,” said Doug Boden, Regional Manager, Freedom 55 Financial Peterborough. “We are delighted to have raised $43.500 to support this vascular program and would like to thank all of our partners, sponsors, donors and players in making this another resounding success.”
“Freedom 55 Financial have been an excellent partner on this event and we are so thankful that they selected the Foundation as the beneficiary for this year’s annual Golf Classic,” said Hannah Routly, Executive Director, Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation. “Thanks to the work of our volunteers and staff, and the generosity of our supporters, like Freedom 55 Financial, the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation is leading the way in improving primary health care services in the City and County of Peterborough.”
CVDPMI is a joint collaborative approach, spearheaded by Primary Health Care Services of Peterborough that is dedicated to educating and informing Peterborough County and City residents about the risk factors of vascular disease, as well as its early detection, prevention, management and treatment.
“We are very grateful to Freedom 55 Financial and the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation in supporting this ground-breaking collaborative approach to vascular disease,” said Bill Casey, Executive Director, Primary Health Care Services of Peterborough. “By changing the manner in which vascular disease is identified and treated in patients, CVDPMI will lead to fewer life altering events such as heart attacks, strokes and vascular dementia, in addition to decreasing the number of visits to the Emergency Department. This financial support is greatly appreciated.”
CVDPMI is a first in Ontario and has numerous partners including: Primary Health Care Services of Peterborough, Peterborough’s Family Health Teams, Central East Local Health Integration Network, Allied Health Professionals, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Peterborough Regional Nephrology Association, the Vascular Health Network, the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation, Astra Zeneca Canada and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
