Registered Dietitian – 37.5 hours/week, Temporary (1 year)

Family Health Teams (FHT) use a patient-centered approach to primary care that brings together doctors, mental health clinicians, nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, registered nurses, registered practical nurses and pharmacists to coordinate the highest possible quality of care for patients- when they need it – as close to home as possible. FHTs, in collaboration with Family Health Organizations, are a key component of Ontario’s healthcare plan to reduce wait times, improve access to primary care and keep Ontarians healthy.


The Registered Dietitian is an active member of a multidisciplinary team who is responsible for the delivery of patient-centered clinical nutritional counselling services. The services of the Registered Dietitian will serve to enhance the quality of primary health care services in the area.


  • Identify nutrition problems
  • Assess the nutritional status of patients
  • Establish goal oriented treatment interventions
  • Provide family/patient education and provide support to address nutritional needs
  • Develop care plans and monitor the effectiveness of dietary changes
  • Provides individual treatment and group classes as needed
  • Specialize in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal conditions, and malnutrition
  • Provide support to adults and seniors, including those with special medical needs
  • Act as a coach/mentor/consultant to patients
  • Act as a resource and participate in Family Health Team educational programs
  • Regular attendance to all FHT/FHO meetings is mandatory

Other related duties may be assigned in the interest of the efficient operations of Peterborough’s Family Health Team and the effective management of our patient populations.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday. Some occasional evening work may be required


  • Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Two years’ experience in a primary health care setting preferred
  • Current Diabetes Educator certification preferred
  • Excellent assessment, planning and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the principles of adult learning
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate both individual and group educational sessions using the principles of adult learning

  • Demonstrated good attendance with ability to maintain this standard
