Nutrition Month 2019

This year, the Dietitians of Canada are continuing to help Canadians Unlock the Potential of Food . Our Registered Dietitians (RDs) share their favourite recipes that have: The Potential to Fuel, The Potential to Prevent, The Potential to Heal, and The Potential to Bring us Together!

The Potential to Fuel

Just like putting gas in your car, food is the fuel your body needs to get you through your day. Treats like cookies, donuts, and potato chips are convenient, but they don’t offer the same lasting energy or nutrition that healthy snacks will. Here is a No-Bake Chocolate Almond Bliss Bars recipe that is both healthy and will fuel your body.

Other healthy snack ideas include:

  • Yogurt with berries and walnuts
  • Cheese and whole grain crackers
  • Raw veggies and hummus
  • Apple slices with peanut butter
  • Cottage cheese and peach slices

The Potential to Prevent

Lifestyle factors, including what we eat, can affect our health. A nutritious diet can help prevent illness and can lower the risk of developing those chronic diseases. Here is a Black Bean, Chickpea & Avocado Salad recipe that has lots of fibre and also provides heart-healthy fats!

The Potential to Health

The food that we put into our body everyday has the potential to do harm or to help heal, especially when someone is dealing with any sort of food allergy, food sensitivity or digestive issue.

When people suffer from food allergies or sensitivities, it can be difficult to adjust their eating habits without feeling limited in their food choices. However, eating properly for any sort of disease or health condition is imperative to healing the body. Get creative with healthier alternatives that accommodate your food allergies & sensitivities and are easy to grab & go!
